About ‘The Closing of Winterland’:
On December 31, 1978, the Grateful Dead said goodbye to San Francisco’s Winterland Ballroom with one of the most legendary concerts in their storied history. The marathon performance stretched past midnight into the early hours of New Year’s Day, a joyful farewell to a beloved venue that had hosted countless nights of music and community.
To celebrate the final night of Terrapin Winterfest, the Terrapin All-Stars will bring this iconic night back to life in full, channeling the energy, spirit, and sense of occasion that made the original Closing of Winterland such a cornerstone of Deadhead lore. Join us as we honor the music and magic of that unforgettable evening, right here at the Guild Theatre.
