Wang Chung Biography
Wang Chung came out of the post-punk, New Wave scene in the UK going on to achieve global success, selling millions of records. Throughout their 35 year career they have released 6 albums and 2 Greatest Hits compilations. They have had 6 US Top 40 hits including a number 1 and other international smash hits including ‘Dance Hall Days’ and ‘Let’s Go’, and achieved cult status with their soundtrack for William Friedkin’s movie ‘To Live and Die in LA’, as well as their original song contribution to John Hughes’ legendary movie, The Breakfast Club.
In the process of all of this (and somewhat unintentionally), Wang Chung became part of the contemporary culture of North America. Their huge smash ‘Everybody Have Fun Tonight’, with its now famous line ”Everybody Wang Chung Tonight” saw the invention of a new US verb: ”to Wang Chung”, the band being name-checked by everyone from Homer Simpson, Austin Powers, Two and a Half Men’s Charlie and Alan Harper, Top Gear’s James May and Richard Hammond, to Frasier Crane to name just a few.
More recently their music has also featured in TV shows like The Walking Dead, Breaking Bad, South Park, Glee, This is Us, SNL and The Goldbergs, amongst many others…as well as in movies like Bumblebee, Deadpool and The Fighter. They have also featured in various huge video game titles like Grand Theft Auto:Vice City and in many big commercials.

Conceived in 2016 in the depths of San Francisco, FALSE FIGURE exploded onto the bay area’s burgeoning modern deathrock scene as a loud and driving three piece. Distinguishing themselves with tribalistic tom beats and screeching guitars ala KILLING JOKE, this became the hallmark of early releases as swirling feedback gave way to drippingly saccharine melody. Toying with a dichotomy of tension building verses only to be released by lush melodic choruses, ANDRES RUIZ’s haunting vocals blend together a rich chemistry of melancholic, desperate crooning alongside harmonious guitars. 2022’s release CASTIGATIONS, recorded in April 2021 by Grammy winning engineer GREG WILKINSON (High on Fire) and Mastered by Grammy winning engineer Chris Dugan (Green Day), saw the band take a step towards traditional gothic rock and further from traditional punk sounds while retaining their own alchemy. In 2025 the band seeks to release the newest iteration, departing headfirst into luscious early dream pop ecstasy while maintaining a deep beautiful melancholy radiating throughout the record. With influences from the French cold-wave scene, Spain’s La Movida, and British shoegaze, this newest release includes an entirely new line-up with Kevin DeFranco (Super Unison, Boy Problems) on second guitar and Kienan Hamilton (Cartilage) on bass explore a deeper concept of what modern post-punk could sound like
